Question about computer maintenance and problems. 10 points for clear and helpful answer?

1. If I turn off the automatic updater for my AntiVirus program and use manual updating method instead, would this lessen the amount of processes that the computer uses?

2. I have a settings.ini error which states that ';settings.ini is being used by another process. '; How do I fix this?Question about computer maintenance and problems. 10 points for clear and helpful answer?
If you switch automatic updates off then it should lessen the process time but it may not be noticeable.

To delete the file download Microsoft Process Explorer from Microsoft for free, run it and click on the find menu and click find handle or DLL. Search for settings.ini and you will see a list of handles to that file.

Double click on the right one and the main window will show and the handle will be highlighted, right click it and select 'close handle' once the handle is closed you can delete the file.Question about computer maintenance and problems. 10 points for clear and helpful answer?
MORE INFO.

What version of windows are you running?

what anti-virus program are you running?

Don't disable the autoupdate thinking that is going to improve anything, the update will download the needed files and install them in the background utilizing your cpu very little. Much easier and reliable than doing it by hand.

I would bet you have some type of malware infection that most AV programs don't catch, go to malwarebytes.org download install and run. FREE version please. Run a full scan with it, should take about 2 hours and a reboot.

More ram isn't a bad idea, but there is more kinds of ram than will fit in this box so without knowing I can't advise. If it is older than DDR, like SDRAM then it would be more cost effective to buy a new pc than upgrade. DDR2 is dirt cheap right now, 4gigs for around 40bucks if you shop.
if you set automatic updater to update at a certain time then it should not affect your computer%26gt;you may need to add more ram
