I work in IT for a large corporation. We have informatics guys and you will either be a very technical person doing a lot of code or application setup/configuration or you will be a functional or business analyst type person where you go to meetings and meet with marketing/sales/hospital people and talk about what functionality they want from an application.
Both jobs make good money and after 5-6 years of experience you can easily make $100K.
It's more important to get work experience in informatics than to major in it. My informatics guys don't have informatics degrees. They were either computer science or business guys who learned a software really well.
Figure out some of the top informatics software out there and get work experience.
A MIS major would be great too, in case you don't want to get stuck doing informatics.
