At which point during Bible times ,it became clear that Man was supposed to have only 1 wife ??

When God made Eve out of Adam's rib...he didn't make Eves out of Adam's ribs. The multiple wife thing spelled trouble for all of those folks who did it. Interestingly enough...the ancient Chinese character for trouble is a roof with two women underneath.

Abraham's extra wife started the Islam v Hebrew problem. Jacob's two wives started the fights between Joseph and his brothers--causing the Hebrews to eventually become slaves of Egypt. King David...wowee can't even began to talk about the sibling rivalries and wife rivalries...think of Absalom. King Solomon--had 1000 women...including wives and concubines. They lead him astray in his efforts to please them instead of God. His straying from God helped to make the kingdom vulnerable to the Canaanite gods and goddesses...one of which was called Ashtoreth--related to a certain fertility holiday that comes to mind about now. The kingdom was divided...the sons killed each other, etc. I cannot think of any Bible character who had a good time with having more than one wife.At which point during Bible times ,it became clear that Man was supposed to have only 1 wife ??
It was in the middle of Deuteronomy.

No, that can't be right cause God gave David a couple extras.

Hold on, is this a trick question?At which point during Bible times ,it became clear that Man was supposed to have only 1 wife ??
it doesn't happen in the bible, only in the laws of man

but at the same time, it is not commanded TO HAVE more then one wife, thus, one can have only one wife, and is doing nothing wrong
My Challenge to all Christians:

Where in the NT do you see a direct condemnation of polygamy? And if I were to become a Christian and I have multiple wives (as some wealthy Muslims have 4 wives), do I have to divorce them and keep just one? If not, then how is polygamy exactly being forbidden in the NT, when it's compromised and allowed for me??

A brief look at polygamy in the Old Testament:

Let us look at some of the verses from the Old Testament that allow polygamy:

In Exodus 21:10, a man can marry an infinite amount of women without any limits to how many he can marry.

In 2 Samuel 5:13; 1 Chronicles 3:1-9, 14:3, King David had six wives and numerous concubines.

In 1 Kings 11:3, King Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines.

In 2 Chronicles 11:21, King Solomon's son Rehoboam had 18 wives and 60 concubines.

In Deuteronomy 21:15 ';If a man has two wives, and he loves one but not the other, and both bear him sons....';

There are a lot more verses from the Old Testament that allow polygamy, but I think that the above are sufficient enough to prove my point.

Yahshua said: ';Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law (the Old Testament) or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to establish them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke or a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law (the Old Testament) until everything is perfected. (Matthew 5:17-18)';

Christians always say as an excuse ';Oh this law doesn't exist in the New Testament, it is only the Old Testament.'; Well, according to Matthew 5:17-18 above, we clearly see that Yahshua honored the Old Testament, and forces Christians to follow the unmodified laws of it that have not been replaced by newer ones in the New Testament. The Old Testament as we clearly see above does indeed allow polygamy without a shadow of a doubt !!.

There is not a single verse from the New Testament that prohibits polygamy.

Mankind’s government lead by Satan have created laws that prohibits true believers from upholding certain laws of concern and love for our fellow beings.

We are by law not allowed to practice this loving law now, but we will practice it in the soon coming Kingdom of Yahweh. Remember the marriage supper of the Lamb, He will be married to 144,000 brides.

Last summer a team of Scandinavian scientists announced that twice as many girls as boys are being born in the Arctic, a region said to serve as a “pollution sink” for the rest of the planet. Earlier in the year a report from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences determined that the ratio of male-to-female births has substantially dropped in the United States and Japan, yielding about 250,000 fewer boys than would have been born had the sex ratio circa 1970 endured. In both cases, researchers pegged environmental exposures as a probable factor in the shortage of boy births.

As more and more research reveals a decline in the number of bouncing baby boys born each year, scientists are zeroing in on a class of synthetic chemicals known as endocrine disruptors. Including plastic ingredients like phthalates and bisphenol-A, these commonplace compounds are known to mimic female hormones and thwart the production of testosterone, explains Shanna Swan, Ph.D., director of the Center for Reproductive Epidemiology at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.

With this growing trend, what is to become of the single women who are not blessed with great looks or may even have physical deformities that makes them less attractive then their counterparts?

Are they forced to live a lives of reproaches of not being involved with a family unit and to have the greatest blessing that a woman can have, offspring’s?

You see Yahweh’s laws provide for all, they are loving and considerate to all of humanity so that all can enjoy life truly as Yahweh intended it be.

Satan and man’s laws are uncaring and selfish. It is OK for a man to have 5 to 10 girlfriends and numerous children by these woman, but to have him live up to his responsibility to marry and provided a home and shelter for these woman and children is unlawful. Go figure.

Deu 22:28 ¶ If a man find a damsel [that is] a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;

Deu 22:29 Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty [shekels] of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.
In 1 Timothy 3:2, bishops were cautioned to have only wife, so I'd say pretty late.
There are only two verses in the bible (New Testament) in which a ';law'; is made that a man have *only* one wife, and these commandments are *expressly* for officers within the church. In other words, the *only* people that the bible suggests should take only one wife are those who hope to one day become officers of the church.

That being said, the bible *never* recommends multiple wives, and in a few passages warns against having too many wives (without saying what too many is).

Finally, the New Testament is *clearly* permissive of multiple wives for Christians other than church officers.

So, the person who answered that this was a matter of law and not of scripture is accurate. I am not certain at which point the early Church condemned polygamy. I have been unable to locate a specific date for the adoption of this doctrine. *However*, it *is* interesting that, among ancient civilizations of significance in the West, Rome and Greece both demonstrated very little polygamy, and these were the cultures most prevalent in the time of the formation of Christianity.

Jim, http://www.jimpettis.com/bibles/
why do you ask?.
It has always been that way
One wife, I thought we weren't supposed to have any. Where are you getting this stuff?
nowhere
1Corin 7:2

When it became clear that that's all one man could handle.
Genesis 1 %26amp; 2
I don't think God intended man to have only one wife.

God said to be fruitful and multiply--it was easier if a man had more than one wife.

As well, as we approach older ages, a woman's sex drive declines where as a man's is still strong. It would only make sense than he had more than one wife.

That being said, if my husband ever tries to find another wife---I will kill him.
