Question about computer maintenance and problems. 10 points for clear and helpful answer?

1. If I turn off the automatic updater for my AntiVirus program and use manual updating method instead, would this lessen the amount of processes that the computer uses?

2. I have a settings.ini error which states that ';settings.ini is being used by another process. '; How do I fix this? And yes, I have already tried to search for the elusive process and still don't know what it is.Question about computer maintenance and problems. 10 points for clear and helpful answer?
Maybe depends on how the updating program works in your anti-virus program. Would not be hard to find out. Just shut it down. But anti-virus program auto updates are One onf the things I don't think should ever be off.

You should go to download.com Get the free tool Advance SystemCare free. It's a good free tune up tool. Make sure if you decide to give it a try. That when you install it, that when give the option to create a restore point you take it.Question about computer maintenance and problems. 10 points for clear and helpful answer?
1. No, the Anti-virus program most likely only update once a day, the anti-virus updater is only a process when it is running, and it most likely only updates once a day. it is best you leave it on the appropriate settings.

2.What could be happening is you have a 3rd party service that’s running in the background. Let's try clean booting the system to remove 3rd party software and see if that clears up the problem.

Follow the steps below to place your computer in “clean boot”

· Click the Start orb on your Desktop

· Type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

· On the General tab, click Selective Startup.

· Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.

· Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.

· Click OK.

. Restart the computer, the issue may be resolved.
1) Yes

2) Hm, that process sounds very generic, so it probably is a Windows-related process. Did you check this thread while you searched earlier?:

Namely this poster - ';I had the same issue. I was able to fix it by doing a System Restore:

Control Panel, Classic View, System, Change Settings, System Protection,

System Restore. It took a few minutes but it fixed it.';

Not sure if this is related to your issue, but I would try to see if this fixes it.
1. av program should have it set for automatic updates.

2. http://www.google.com/search?q=settings.…
always use automatic..U don't want to miss anything, and it doesn't use up the much space.
