How do i clear out rust? easy 10 points?

i got this old collectible 80's nhl new york islanders garbage can





only problem is its full of rust so its gross





how can i get all the rust out from in the grabage can without having to buy something expensive for it





preferably a cheap home method of remoiving the rust

* Soap IS NOT the answer. Don't listen to them. Rust is iron oxide and is soluble in acidic solution. The best way to make an acidic solution is to use pH down for pools. Or buy Crystal Vanish (toilet cleaner - not the liquid kind. These are sodium bisulfate. A cupful in a gallon of water should do the trick.How do i clear out rust? easy 10 points?
Brillo pad and some dish detergent.
CLR works great and is non abrasive. I have used WD-40 and it works well also.
